It's an honor to talk with you as a member of the american band "fool's game " . Let's start by the classic question ( laughs ) : can you introduce yourself and your band to the tunisian metal heads ?

My name is Matt Crooks, and I started the band and wrote all the music. I play guitar and bass on the album. Vocals are from Lars Larsen also of Manticora. Drums are by John Macaluso of Yngwie, ARK and Starbreaker fame. Lead guitars are by Matt Johnsen of Pharaoh. The keyboards are courtesy of Nick van Dyk also of Redemption.

the first question that may be asked , why have you chosen " fool's game " as name ?

> I run a recording studio, and I was working on an album by Superchrist, and the singer said something to the effect of "recording tonight is going to be a fool's errand". That reminded me of the Mordred album Fool's Game, and I thought it might be a cool name for the band. I wish there was more to it than that, but that's about it!

you music , is so progressive , so melodious , and sometimes so rock . But i was a little bit surprised while reading "arch enemy" and "in flames " in your influences . can i have more explication about this point ?

> Arch Enemy and In Flames are very melodic in their instrumentation, just not in their vocal delivery. I think a lot of Fool's Game songs would sound very much like a melodic death metal band if we had harsh vocals instead of Lars. Also, our guitars are all seven strings so they are tuned to low B, which is the tuning some of the melodic death metal bands use, so some of the influence comes there as well.

the band exist still long time now , but still have an only one album . is this the calm before the storm ( laughs ) or just a lack of inspiration ?

> Well the album took a long time to record because everyone has other bands in which they play, and I have been busy producing albums for other people. We are hoping to have the album out early next year, and then to support it with some live shows. Since we don't have a label yet, we'll have to see how that all works out.

when i was trying to analyze your biography , i've found that your band members were not friends and they were just choosen between others . isn't this point causing problems now ?

> All of the members were friends in some way. I was friends with Matt and Nick, Matt was friends with John, and I was friends with a friend of Lars. So we all knew each other either directly or indirectly, and it seems to have worked out well.

and talking about members , why 2 of them were on PHARAOH ? i mean is this a simple coincidence ?

> I have recorded and produced the last two Pharaoh albums ("The Longest Night" and "Be Gone") and am good friends with Matt Johnsen. When I needed someone to help with lead guitars he was the logical choice since I talk to him on a daily basis. Tim only sings on one song on the album, he trades off the lead lines with Lars, and then sings the chorus with Lars. That worked out because he happened to be recording Pharaoh while I was working on Fool's Game. He was already in the studio, so singing one extra song was easy!

and are you the main compositor or is the whole band doing it ?

I wrote all of the basic instrumentation for the songs. Everyone else was giving (almost) complete freedom to write their own parts from there. I had ideas on what I wanted for each song, but in almost every case what they came up with was much better than what I had in mind. Lars wrote all of the vocal melodies and most of the lyrics for the songs. Three of the songs are actually poems "The Conqueror Worm", "The Wild Swans at Coole" and "She Moved Through the Fair".

and the lyrics , what are they talking about? and who is doing them ?

Lars wrote all of the lyrics, so I can't say what he had in mind when he wrote them... what I get from them is a mistrust of religion and a mistrust of society. I'd really have to ask him though!

let's move to the practical things ( laugh ) . how many concerts have you made untill now ?

None. We hope to change that soon!

and why haven't you signed with a label ?

We are in negotiations right now. The CD was not finished until a month or so ago, so we have just started talking to labels now. We are signed with Intromental management, and they are doing a great job for us. I expect to have something finalized soon.

what are your plans for the futur ? ( albums , concerts ... )

> We would like to play some festivals next year to promote the album. With members living all of the world, it is difficult for us to get together to perform, but we'd really like to make it happen. I have already started writing bits and pieces for the next album, so maybe we'll be recording in a year or so for the second CD.

we are tunisian , so we must ask you if you have an idea about the tunisian or the arabic metal scene ?

> Not really. Do you have an active scene there?

finally , i have to thank and have you something to add ?

> Thanks for taking the time to do this interview. I hope I have more news about the release of the CD soon!

Interview avec Are You God?

Are You God?

Dodaiev:Can you introduice your band for tunisian metal heads?

Joao:We’ve been active since 2000. None of us ever set the band as a priority, we’re not grindcore musicians for a living, we use the band just to try to put our ideas in practice.

Dodaiev:How was the idea to call your band "Are You God?"?

Joao:This name was chosen when our drummer heard this phrase in a movie (Joan of Arc, if I’m not mistaken this was the movie).

Dodaiev:As I found on my researches, you made your first album in 2006(6 years after forming the band),so why you took all this time?

Joao:We released a demo in 2002, an EP in 2002, we recorded Miranda in 2003 but we took some incredible 3 years to mix, it took a while to get every riff as much inaudible as possible, put each part in its very own sacred place, we cut’n’paste things a million of times... also what was a really long process was to make a label release a CD which cover is torn to pieces when opened.

Dodaiev:When will you realase your new album?

Joao:Dunno. We just released a split 3” mini-CD with Japanische Kamphorspiele (German band) and soon enough we’ll also release a split 7”LP with Unholy Grave (Japanese band), having half of the copies put out in Japan and the other half in Brazil (at least we hope so !)
We treat a record like a son of ours so... I guess we’ll only release short stuff for a long while because we don’t have enough time to raise another son yet.

Dodaiev:Why you don't work on albums??

Joao:I do all the stuff but I don’t like to keep talking and talking about this, you know...

Dodaiev:For the line-up,why you just changed your guitarists?

Joao:Alas, it is hard to find someone that plays guitar, does not earn anything for this, and also does not complain to help us on having ideas that apparently have no direction whatsoever.

Dodaiev:Did you participate in famous concerts?what was the greatest one that you really liked?

Joao:The only one in the band that enjoys such thing is our drummer. Essentially those concerts’ conditions are pretty shitty. Our best gigs ever were done in smaller fests organized by us (and featuring very small crowd attendance)

Dodaiev:What are lyrical themes and who is writing songs?

Joao:Complex themes. We really avoid giving more details about this. I believe our lyrics will be studied someday.

Dodaiev:What are your dreams(concerts, albums, bands to work with)?

Joao:Mainly... composing an entire record with a great deal of patience, record it in a real decent way and be able to execute all the ideas the entire band has. All of this would be done... but in order to please ourselves... and no one else.

DodaievWhy you signed with Travolta Discos?

Joao:Actually they’re a bunch of assholes who only care about money and selling bands’ tees.

Dodaiev:What are your plans for the next year?

Joao:We intend on releasing a vinyl edition of Miranda thru a non-brazilian label, rehearse, make some more songs, try to release something new maybe...?

Dodaiev:Last thing that you want to say....

Joao:Don’t believe a single thing you’ve just read here.(laugh)

Paride Mercurio - vocals
Rosario Piazza - guitar
Marcello Triolo - bass
Et Raimondo Caltagirone ( guitar),Piero Geloso (drums) qui ont quitté le groupe pour former leur propre groupe en gardant le même nom "Cadaver Mutilator" mais ils l'ont changé en "Humator"

Dodaiev:Hi guys I'm Dodaiev from "Dark-Interviews" we are so happy to make this interview with one of the most fucking noisy band(laugh)

Rosario:Hi Brothers,I'm Rosario(rythm and lead guitar).It's a honour for us too.

Dodaiev:When we hear the name,we remember one of the most famous band Six Feet Under,is the name taken from their song?

Rosario:The name comes from the passion for the gore/splatter movies and the forensic medicine

Dodaiev:When we go back to 2003,we find that you were playing with Raimondo Caltagirone and Piero Geloso, then there was a change, but they kept the same name "Cadaver Mutilator".Was there some problems between the two bands?

Rosario:Just usual problems until they realised their faults and they finally changed their name. Currently we are the only, unique and true Cadaver Mutilator.

Dodaiev:the band was formed in 2003 and after 5 years we find that you just have an album and working on the second one.Does the changes were one of causes that you didn't make 3 or more albums?

Rosario:Maybe yes. The changes have influenced the time planned for the composition and the song's performing of each single musician.

Dodaiev:Do you know a little about tunisian metal bands?

Rosario:I will be sincere....not so much.

Dodaiev:Let's talk about composing and writing lyrics, who is doing that?

Rosario:The writing lyrics of “Carnasyum”are made by me while for the composing part. Even so the music composition but with a strong support of Paride (singer). For “Nechronicles” there is a stronger collaboration for the composing part between everyone in the band.

Dodaiev:Porn lyrics!!!!Which porn actress is the most sexy that you watched(laugh)?

Rosario:Everyone has his own favourite one....maybe more than one!(laugh)

Dodaiev:How was the recording of "Carnasyum" at Raven Studio?

Rosario:An experience that made us to mature and to acquire consciousness of our music and potentiality.

Dodaiev:Why you didn't signed with a metal label?

Rosario:Because we haven't yet received interesting proposals.

Dodaiev:How was your 2007 Tour? Was it the best that you had?

Rosario:The best part was in May with Suffocation. We had other great moments in August with Sinister, Dismember, Avulsed, Emeth, Natron, Hour of Penance, etc, etc at the Southern Xtreem Noise Festival.

Dodaiev:What you learned from other bands?

Rosario:Respect,humility and professionalism.

Dodaiev:"Nechronicles" your second full-length album, you mentioned that the album is about zombie stories, why are you changing lyrical themes from an album to another?

Rosario:We want that each album could talk about a different concept each time.

Dodaiev:It was a great honor for me to make this interview,do you want to say something for tunisian metal heads?

Rosario:Thank you for your interest and stay always fucking brutal!!!Greetings from Palermo.
