Interview avec Are You God?

Are You God?

Dodaiev:Can you introduice your band for tunisian metal heads?

Joao:We’ve been active since 2000. None of us ever set the band as a priority, we’re not grindcore musicians for a living, we use the band just to try to put our ideas in practice.

Dodaiev:How was the idea to call your band "Are You God?"?

Joao:This name was chosen when our drummer heard this phrase in a movie (Joan of Arc, if I’m not mistaken this was the movie).

Dodaiev:As I found on my researches, you made your first album in 2006(6 years after forming the band),so why you took all this time?

Joao:We released a demo in 2002, an EP in 2002, we recorded Miranda in 2003 but we took some incredible 3 years to mix, it took a while to get every riff as much inaudible as possible, put each part in its very own sacred place, we cut’n’paste things a million of times... also what was a really long process was to make a label release a CD which cover is torn to pieces when opened.

Dodaiev:When will you realase your new album?

Joao:Dunno. We just released a split 3” mini-CD with Japanische Kamphorspiele (German band) and soon enough we’ll also release a split 7”LP with Unholy Grave (Japanese band), having half of the copies put out in Japan and the other half in Brazil (at least we hope so !)
We treat a record like a son of ours so... I guess we’ll only release short stuff for a long while because we don’t have enough time to raise another son yet.

Dodaiev:Why you don't work on albums??

Joao:I do all the stuff but I don’t like to keep talking and talking about this, you know...

Dodaiev:For the line-up,why you just changed your guitarists?

Joao:Alas, it is hard to find someone that plays guitar, does not earn anything for this, and also does not complain to help us on having ideas that apparently have no direction whatsoever.

Dodaiev:Did you participate in famous concerts?what was the greatest one that you really liked?

Joao:The only one in the band that enjoys such thing is our drummer. Essentially those concerts’ conditions are pretty shitty. Our best gigs ever were done in smaller fests organized by us (and featuring very small crowd attendance)

Dodaiev:What are lyrical themes and who is writing songs?

Joao:Complex themes. We really avoid giving more details about this. I believe our lyrics will be studied someday.

Dodaiev:What are your dreams(concerts, albums, bands to work with)?

Joao:Mainly... composing an entire record with a great deal of patience, record it in a real decent way and be able to execute all the ideas the entire band has. All of this would be done... but in order to please ourselves... and no one else.

DodaievWhy you signed with Travolta Discos?

Joao:Actually they’re a bunch of assholes who only care about money and selling bands’ tees.

Dodaiev:What are your plans for the next year?

Joao:We intend on releasing a vinyl edition of Miranda thru a non-brazilian label, rehearse, make some more songs, try to release something new maybe...?

Dodaiev:Last thing that you want to say....

Joao:Don’t believe a single thing you’ve just read here.(laugh)
