It's an honor to talk with you as a member of the american band "fool's game " . Let's start by the classic question ( laughs ) : can you introduce yourself and your band to the tunisian metal heads ?

My name is Matt Crooks, and I started the band and wrote all the music. I play guitar and bass on the album. Vocals are from Lars Larsen also of Manticora. Drums are by John Macaluso of Yngwie, ARK and Starbreaker fame. Lead guitars are by Matt Johnsen of Pharaoh. The keyboards are courtesy of Nick van Dyk also of Redemption.

the first question that may be asked , why have you chosen " fool's game " as name ?

> I run a recording studio, and I was working on an album by Superchrist, and the singer said something to the effect of "recording tonight is going to be a fool's errand". That reminded me of the Mordred album Fool's Game, and I thought it might be a cool name for the band. I wish there was more to it than that, but that's about it!

you music , is so progressive , so melodious , and sometimes so rock . But i was a little bit surprised while reading "arch enemy" and "in flames " in your influences . can i have more explication about this point ?

> Arch Enemy and In Flames are very melodic in their instrumentation, just not in their vocal delivery. I think a lot of Fool's Game songs would sound very much like a melodic death metal band if we had harsh vocals instead of Lars. Also, our guitars are all seven strings so they are tuned to low B, which is the tuning some of the melodic death metal bands use, so some of the influence comes there as well.

the band exist still long time now , but still have an only one album . is this the calm before the storm ( laughs ) or just a lack of inspiration ?

> Well the album took a long time to record because everyone has other bands in which they play, and I have been busy producing albums for other people. We are hoping to have the album out early next year, and then to support it with some live shows. Since we don't have a label yet, we'll have to see how that all works out.

when i was trying to analyze your biography , i've found that your band members were not friends and they were just choosen between others . isn't this point causing problems now ?

> All of the members were friends in some way. I was friends with Matt and Nick, Matt was friends with John, and I was friends with a friend of Lars. So we all knew each other either directly or indirectly, and it seems to have worked out well.

and talking about members , why 2 of them were on PHARAOH ? i mean is this a simple coincidence ?

> I have recorded and produced the last two Pharaoh albums ("The Longest Night" and "Be Gone") and am good friends with Matt Johnsen. When I needed someone to help with lead guitars he was the logical choice since I talk to him on a daily basis. Tim only sings on one song on the album, he trades off the lead lines with Lars, and then sings the chorus with Lars. That worked out because he happened to be recording Pharaoh while I was working on Fool's Game. He was already in the studio, so singing one extra song was easy!

and are you the main compositor or is the whole band doing it ?

I wrote all of the basic instrumentation for the songs. Everyone else was giving (almost) complete freedom to write their own parts from there. I had ideas on what I wanted for each song, but in almost every case what they came up with was much better than what I had in mind. Lars wrote all of the vocal melodies and most of the lyrics for the songs. Three of the songs are actually poems "The Conqueror Worm", "The Wild Swans at Coole" and "She Moved Through the Fair".

and the lyrics , what are they talking about? and who is doing them ?

Lars wrote all of the lyrics, so I can't say what he had in mind when he wrote them... what I get from them is a mistrust of religion and a mistrust of society. I'd really have to ask him though!

let's move to the practical things ( laugh ) . how many concerts have you made untill now ?

None. We hope to change that soon!

and why haven't you signed with a label ?

We are in negotiations right now. The CD was not finished until a month or so ago, so we have just started talking to labels now. We are signed with Intromental management, and they are doing a great job for us. I expect to have something finalized soon.

what are your plans for the futur ? ( albums , concerts ... )

> We would like to play some festivals next year to promote the album. With members living all of the world, it is difficult for us to get together to perform, but we'd really like to make it happen. I have already started writing bits and pieces for the next album, so maybe we'll be recording in a year or so for the second CD.

we are tunisian , so we must ask you if you have an idea about the tunisian or the arabic metal scene ?

> Not really. Do you have an active scene there?

finally , i have to thank and have you something to add ?

> Thanks for taking the time to do this interview. I hope I have more news about the release of the CD soon!

Interview avec Are You God?

Are You God?

Dodaiev:Can you introduice your band for tunisian metal heads?

Joao:We’ve been active since 2000. None of us ever set the band as a priority, we’re not grindcore musicians for a living, we use the band just to try to put our ideas in practice.

Dodaiev:How was the idea to call your band "Are You God?"?

Joao:This name was chosen when our drummer heard this phrase in a movie (Joan of Arc, if I’m not mistaken this was the movie).

Dodaiev:As I found on my researches, you made your first album in 2006(6 years after forming the band),so why you took all this time?

Joao:We released a demo in 2002, an EP in 2002, we recorded Miranda in 2003 but we took some incredible 3 years to mix, it took a while to get every riff as much inaudible as possible, put each part in its very own sacred place, we cut’n’paste things a million of times... also what was a really long process was to make a label release a CD which cover is torn to pieces when opened.

Dodaiev:When will you realase your new album?

Joao:Dunno. We just released a split 3” mini-CD with Japanische Kamphorspiele (German band) and soon enough we’ll also release a split 7”LP with Unholy Grave (Japanese band), having half of the copies put out in Japan and the other half in Brazil (at least we hope so !)
We treat a record like a son of ours so... I guess we’ll only release short stuff for a long while because we don’t have enough time to raise another son yet.

Dodaiev:Why you don't work on albums??

Joao:I do all the stuff but I don’t like to keep talking and talking about this, you know...

Dodaiev:For the line-up,why you just changed your guitarists?

Joao:Alas, it is hard to find someone that plays guitar, does not earn anything for this, and also does not complain to help us on having ideas that apparently have no direction whatsoever.

Dodaiev:Did you participate in famous concerts?what was the greatest one that you really liked?

Joao:The only one in the band that enjoys such thing is our drummer. Essentially those concerts’ conditions are pretty shitty. Our best gigs ever were done in smaller fests organized by us (and featuring very small crowd attendance)

Dodaiev:What are lyrical themes and who is writing songs?

Joao:Complex themes. We really avoid giving more details about this. I believe our lyrics will be studied someday.

Dodaiev:What are your dreams(concerts, albums, bands to work with)?

Joao:Mainly... composing an entire record with a great deal of patience, record it in a real decent way and be able to execute all the ideas the entire band has. All of this would be done... but in order to please ourselves... and no one else.

DodaievWhy you signed with Travolta Discos?

Joao:Actually they’re a bunch of assholes who only care about money and selling bands’ tees.

Dodaiev:What are your plans for the next year?

Joao:We intend on releasing a vinyl edition of Miranda thru a non-brazilian label, rehearse, make some more songs, try to release something new maybe...?

Dodaiev:Last thing that you want to say....

Joao:Don’t believe a single thing you’ve just read here.(laugh)

Paride Mercurio - vocals
Rosario Piazza - guitar
Marcello Triolo - bass

Dodaiev:Hi guys I'm Dodaiev from "Dark-Interviews" we are so happy to make this interview with one of the most fucking noisy band(laugh)

Rosario:Hi Brothers,I'm Rosario(rythm and lead guitar).It's a honour for us too.

Dodaiev:When we hear the name,we remember one of the most famous band Six Feet Under,is the name taken from their song?

Rosario:The name comes from the passion for the gore/splatter movies and the forensic medicine

Dodaiev:When we go back to 2003,we find that you were playing with Raimondo Caltagirone and Piero Geloso, then there was a change, but they kept the same name "Cadaver Mutilator".Was there some problems between the two bands?

Rosario:Just usual problems until they realised their faults and they finally changed their name. Currently we are the only, unique and true Cadaver Mutilator.

Dodaiev:the band was formed in 2003 and after 5 years we find that you just have an album and working on the second one.Does the changes were one of causes that you didn't make 3 or more albums?

Rosario:Maybe yes. The changes have influenced the time planned for the composition and the song's performing of each single musician.

Dodaiev:Do you know a little about tunisian metal bands?

Rosario:I will be sincere....not so much.

Dodaiev:Let's talk about composing and writing lyrics, who is doing that?

Rosario:The writing lyrics of “Carnasyum”are made by me while for the composing part. Even so the music composition but with a strong support of Paride (singer). For “Nechronicles” there is a stronger collaboration for the composing part between everyone in the band.

Dodaiev:Porn lyrics!!!!Which porn actress is the most sexy that you watched(laugh)?

Rosario:Everyone has his own favourite one....maybe more than one!(laugh)

Dodaiev:How was the recording of "Carnasyum" at Raven Studio?

Rosario:An experience that made us to mature and to acquire consciousness of our music and potentiality.

Dodaiev:Why you didn't signed with a metal label?

Rosario:Because we haven't yet received interesting proposals.

Dodaiev:How was your 2007 Tour? Was it the best that you had?

Rosario:The best part was in May with Suffocation. We had other great moments in August with Sinister, Dismember, Avulsed, Emeth, Natron, Hour of Penance, etc, etc at the Southern Xtreem Noise Festival.

Dodaiev:What you learned from other bands?

Rosario:Respect,humility and professionalism.

Dodaiev:"Nechronicles" your second full-length album, you mentioned that the album is about zombie stories, why are you changing lyrical themes from an album to another?

Rosario:We want that each album could talk about a different concept each time.

Dodaiev:It was a great honor for me to make this interview,do you want to say something for tunisian metal heads?

Rosario:Thank you for your interest and stay always fucking brutal!!!Greetings from Palermo.

Talking , for the first time , with a band from finland is a big honor for dark interviews . So let's start with the traditional question and let's introduce the band to the tunisian metalheads .

So, we are a finnish melodic metal band and the band consists of a singer Markku Kuikka, guitarist Emil Pohjalainen and Lasse Nyman, keyboard player Emmi Taipale, basist Pasi Tanskanen and drummer Joonas Pykälä-aho

AT the first time , you have started by playing some iron maiden songs and finally , you have choosen the melodic heavy metal . can you explain us why the style moved from a traditional heavy metal to a melodic heavy metal ?

Well I don't know.. it was a natural choise I guess. To compose your own songs. And the way guys compose nowadays has changed and improved a lot in the previous years. We still have influences from many bands, but we try to do our own thing. Old Thaurorod sounds very different from Thaurorod today :)

and who is doing the composition and writing the lyrics ?

Well, Emil and Pasi does pretty much all the composing and lyrics are written by Pasi or me.

during your career , that starts on 2000 , there have been many "line-up"s . this instability is due to what ?

Actually Thaurorod was officially founded in 2002 and yes, the line-up has changed a lot. There has been different singers in band, but now we finally have a stable line-up. I guess most of the bands go through many line-up changes before they have a stable line-up.

and can we expect a new change in the futur ?

Markku Kuikka is the newest member in our band since our previous singer Lumi left the band. Well, you never know what the future can bring, but I think we have a permanent line-up now. Everyone in the band wants to do this music and work together, so I see no reason for big changes in the future.

the band have made many songs but the most important ones were those of " tales of the end " . Was this album the starting of the professional career ?

Well we have made three demos so far. "Tales Of The End" was the second one of them and..I guess you can say that. The sounds and the songs are far better compared to our first demo "Thaurorod". We have had very good feedback on both "Tales Of The End" and its follower "Morning Lake" promos. And now we are recording our debut album.

and can you tell us what was the miracle of " morning lake " ?

Hmm.. I don't know. There's been a big improvement in the songs and sounds comparing to "Tales Of The End". The goal is to make songs that sound pompous and epic. And the greatest reward is to have people that really like our music and comes to see us on the gigs.

can we know why Jani Vesanen was recruited ?

Well, I joined the band around same time, which was in the late 2005. The band needed a second guitarist and since Emil and Jani worked in the same place and were friends, it was a natural choice to ask him to join the band.

and what about the vocalist Markku kuikka ?

Well, we had problems with our previous singer. It seemed that he no more had time for the band because of his classical studies and he also lived very far away from us it just didn't work. One day we had a gig with Markku's other band Status Minor and later Markku showed us his interest and then we asked him to join the band.

talking about gigs , your first concerts outside finland were in spain . can you give us more informations about this experience ?

Oh, the tour in Spain was awesome. We absolutely didn't know what to expect in advance and the feedback was incredible. We are definitely to visit there again! We had two gigs in Catalunya, first took place in a venue called La Mirona. In La Mirona there have performed such names as Bruce Dickinson and Red Hot Chili peppers, so it was quite a big place. Second gig took place in a small city called Sant Hilari Sacalm in a venue Villaret. The crowd there were just incredible and we will never forget that! By the way, we were the first metal band to perform in that place. So it was pretty hilarious :)

can you give dark interviews some "exclusive " informations about your next album ?

Well we have a great feeling about the upcoming album. There will be 9 epic songs + intro on the album and we hope people will dig it. Something extremely fast, epic and melodic stuff to come

seems to be interesting ;) and are the same ones who make composition and lyrics ? I mean emil and pasi for the composition and Pasi and you for the lyrics .

Yes. But we all take part in arrangements.

and what about your upcoming shows , is there any ones outside finland ?

Well there will definitely be shows outside Finland in the future. We have plans to go to Spain again next year and there is also some talk about England.. let's see. You never know what happens after our album is released

we are tunisian so we must ask you this question : have you an idea about the arabic metal scene ?

No, we don't know that scene so much but I heard of this band called Yram :) It's definitely awesome to have metal bands break from different

finally i have to thank you so much for giving us the opportunity to talk with you .

Thank you. It was an honour :)

Interview Avec ELEVENTYSEVEN

It's a big and immense pleasure to talk with you . so , let's start by introducing the band , eleventyseven , to the tunisian rockers . First of all , why did you choose this name "eleventyseven" ?

when i was younger i had a dream that my grandfather gave me a clock that controlled all the spirits of woodland creatures. in my dream i abused this power and forced to several animals to seek out revenge on some one i disliked. the clock was destroyed and as the numbers from the clock fell to the ground they formed the word "eleventyseven".

speaking about the music , your music style is defined , sometimes as a christain rock and other times as a punk rock or pop punk . can you give us the right defenition ?

we have never cared what we were defined as. we are labeled as "christian" because we are on a christian record label. We do not, however, believe that one can label a person's music as "more christian" than someone else's. We just love playing music and that what we do.

you have started by playing on your high school , and now you have become a worldwide band . was your career so hard ?

our career has always been extremely challenging, but because of that, we appreciate what we have much more and are honored to be able to do it for a living.

in your career , there were many remarquable concerts and shows such as " the logan show " . can you tell us how was this experience important to your band ?

doing tv shows like logan's is always fun. we love being able ot hang with our friends and just be able to enjoy the studio crowds.

and what other shows were so important to you ?

one of our favorite shows ever was a festivla called PUNK SPRING in tokyo. we got to play with a lot of bands we listened to growing up like rancid, and bowling for soup

let's talk about the music now , have you made some covers before composing your own titles ?

we have always tired to play all original music. sometimes we'll cover a backsdtreet boys song or two just for fun.

and what are your influences and favourite bands ?

mxpx, blink 182, are big ones for all of us. I would have ot say my personal influences were nintendo games and disney movies.

who is your compositor ? is it a hole band work ?

i usually do the writing and programming, then bring the songs to caleb and jon for us to do live.

your lyrics are described as "thrid wave emo" . have you any comments about this point ?

not really. i am constantly growing as writer and observer of life in general, so i think the topics and points of veiw change from album to album.

and how was the stability of your lineup important to your band ?

it was crucial. we have been together for almost 7 years now, so we know how to handle each other and how to make it work

are you preparing something for the future ?

more touring. a new record, and hopefully familes one day.

we are tunisians so we have to ask you if you have an idea about the arabian rock/metal scene ?

no, but we're always interested in new kinds of music from over seas.!!!

finally , i have to thank you . it was a great interview ;)

thank you so much !!

Interview Avec P-TROLL

Wael : It's a big and immense pleasure to talk with you ; mark jansen , the grunter , growler , guitar player and the compositor of epica . Let's start , we know that epica is a symphonic metal band , but if we ask you to give us your own presentation , you will say ?

Mark: I will say a gothic metal band. Not because I think this covers it all but because it's the most common name for our style of music. If I have more words to describe I often say, symphonic filmmusic with operatic vocals combined with metal and grunts.

Wael : So let's talk about music , your music is a "symphonic metal" but we find many other influences like the latin and the oriental music . So how can you define it ?

Mark: The more you travel the more yu get in touch with other cultures, that's very interesting and also interesting to put it into your own music. I like many different kinds of (oriental) music and it's great to use it in our own music as well.

Wael : And how is oriental music important to the ex-"sahara dust " ?

Mark: That's why our first name was sahara dust, because of the many oriental influences. But because of the departure of our first singer we decided to change our name.

Wael : In the lyrics , we remark also that you critisize mythism and extremism . more informations about this ?

Mark: I don't like to see that there are more and more contrasts between people while it would be better to come closer to each other and learn from each other. Instead people get frightened of each other. It's a pity. Extremism is the extreme result of this fear and gets dangerous. Extremism is never good. The best intentions can have dramatic results. The wordt actions in history often happened because people thought they were fighting for justice. But who knows for sure who is right and who is not?
That's why we should learn from each other, every culture has its own whisdom.

Wael : You have only 4 albums but more EPs and singles . Can we know why do you prefer to make More EPs than albums ?

Mark: Our former Record company liked to release singles. I prefer albums above singles.

Wael : And what album or song was the closest to your personality ? to your feelings ? points of view ?

Mark: Consign to Oblivion, it contains almost everything what I am.

Wael : If we talk about band members , we discover that main epica's problem , if we can say , was the drummer . Is it really hard to find a drummer that can assume epica's necesities ?

Mark: Now we have the perfect drummer. Arien joined us one year ago after the departure of Jeroen Simons. It took a while before we had a new drummer as we set the level incredibly high. Arien drummed on the album but could not join us in the beginning, but no drummer could match his standard so we were very happy that Arien decided to join us after all :)

Wael : One of your last concerts was with the hungarian symphonic orchestra in which you have played some classical songs and soundtracks in a metal version . can you tell us more about this experience ?

Mark: It was a great experience! All these classical masterpieces played by the orchestra and us. It was amazing. It was also the longest setlist we ever did! 3.5 hours.
the whole classical setlist and after that a long Epica setlist with 2 encores!

Wael : And what other concerts were really important to your career ?

Mark: The one in Tunisia I'll never forget too. It was so overwhelming to see the reaction of the crowd, people were crying at the front rows. So full of emotion as we were the first international metalband coming to Tunisia. We hope to be return as soon as possible.
There are more concerts that were very special but it's more or less 30 shows that have been very important for our carreer.

Wael : Can we have some informations about epica's next album as a gift for our webzine , dark interviews ?

Mark: it will be a long album again,'the songwriter is in full process. I am very satisfied so far. Very challenging songs, and lots of creativity.
I hope we can match the level of the divine conspiracy as it was our mist high standard album so far. But I'm confident we will.

Wael : Is there any other symphonic metal bands or projects that you like ?

Mark: I love Opeth! Great music and also lots of creativity.

Wael : And have you an idea about the tunisian and arabic metal scene ?

Mark: I am in contact with some guys from underground metalbands in Arabia. I hope metal will be accepted by arabian governments as there is still a lot of misunderstanding about metal.

Wael : If you weren't in epica , what would you may be doing now ?

Mark: I would have become a professional cyclist.

Wael : finally i have to thank you for your understanding and comprehension . thank you mark!

Mark: Thank you too!!!
